Q&A With Co-Founder Jenna Hewitt
We dig deep into Co-founder Jenna’s interior style, her go to colour palette and how she brings sustainability into home design decisions.
What’s your interior style?
I’m a natural minimalist. I love calm, uncluttered spaces - my mind is busy so I need elements of my home that feel tranquil. I don’t think of myself as having one particular style, I’m more of an eclectic mix combining modern with vintage/antique pieces. Using different materials and textures is always something I like to do when redesigning any of my own home spaces.
What’s your go-to colour palette?
I love heritage, autumnal colours and warm tones (greens, oranges, mustard, rust). I never use pure white - for me it’s too stark - but I do LOVE the use of black. I think people can be afraid of it but, used well, it gives amazing dramatic effects. I’m also a fan of using tonal palettes to create subtle differences and interest in a room colour.
How do you bring sustainability into home design?
Restore rather than replace - many homes and renovation projects have original features. I like to restore and incorporate as much as possible to retain character. Our Georgian home still had the original doors and rim locks but they had been covered in layers of paint over the years. It was a painstaking (but satisfying) process to restore them - now they’re a unique part of our home design.
What Insta accounts do you love for inspiration right now?
When I’m not getting sidetracked by food accounts… I love:
@manwithahammer - I’ve followed Greg for a few years now. I love his behind the scenes as he restores his (rather incredible) home one room at a time (and he has several to tackle).
@edwardbulmerpaint - I love paint and Edward Bulmer has so many gorgeous colours featured through interiors on their grid and I resonant with his summary that “colour is both an art and a science”.
